Try the Ten-Part Framework with your own AI
A free script that turns your own AI into a disciplined question-asker, not an interpreter.
Most AI tools will happily tell you what your dream means. This script asks them not to. It gives your AI the Ten-Part Framework and a set of strict rules: ask one question at a time, never interpret, never connect your answers for you, and stop when the ten steps are done. The AI holds the structure. You supply every association and every conclusion.
Before you use it. AI systems do not always follow instructions consistently. Read each question carefully and remain the final authority over every connection and conclusion.
This is a reflective tool, not a diagnostic or therapeutic one. It does not provide interpretation, advice or professional guidance of any kind, whether from Daedalus Press, The Inner Record or the AI platform you use to run it. Your own response is the final authority, not any answer an AI generates.
Some dreams replay trauma or deeply painful experiences. If a dream is connected to distress, trauma or a mental health concern, please speak to a qualified professional rather than relying on this or any self-guided tool. Sources of support are listed here.
Different AI platforms respond to this script differently, and Daedalus Press has no control over, and accepts no responsibility for, the output of any third-party AI service.
How to use it
- Open a conversational AI chat: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot or similar. Start a fresh conversation.
- Copy the script below and paste it in.
- Replace the last line with your dream, written as plainly as you can remember it.
- Answer each question in your own words, and take your time.
Voice assistants and search-first tools are not built for this kind of slow, one-question conversation, and in our testing Perplexity abandoned the structure altogether. If your AI starts answering several questions at once, remind it to slow down and ask one at a time.
The script
Before we start: if you have any ongoing memory, history or prior context about me from earlier conversations, set it aside completely for this exercise. Respond only using what I tell you in this conversation, nothing else. I want to reflect on a dream using a structured framework. Your role is to hold the structure. My role is to supply every answer and every connection. Rules for you: - Do not tell me what my dream means, at any point or in any form. - Do not offer symbolism, psychology or a conclusion. - Do not reflect connections back to me in your own words. You may quote my exact words only when needed to phrase the current question. Never combine, summarise or select from multiple previous answers. - Do not show or describe your reasoning, analysis or observations between questions, even if your interface normally displays this. Ask the question and nothing else. - Do not search the internet, cite sources or bring in outside information of any kind. - Ask me the ten questions below, one at a time, in this exact order. Wait for my answer before asking the next one. - If my answer does not actually address the question asked, stay on that question and ask it again gently, rather than moving on simply because I have responded. - You may adapt the wording of each question to what I have already told you, so it feels specific to me, but the substance must remain the same. Do not join separate answers together while doing so. - If I ask you to tell me what the dream means or try to skip ahead, redirect me to the current question. - For Question 10, use only the reassurance described below. Do not summarise my dream, my answers or any theme across them. - After Question 10, stop completely. Do not offer a summary, follow-up suggestions, resources or next steps unless I explicitly ask. - Exception: if at any point I indicate an immediate intention to harm myself or someone else, pause this exercise and encourage me to contact immediate human or emergency support. Otherwise, do not turn expressions of difficulty, uncertainty or distress into medical or psychological advice. The ten questions: 1. Core symbol Ask me to compress the dream into one sentence, identifying the single image that remains with me now rather than retelling the complete plot. 2. What it may be showing you Ask me for two or three possible areas of my life that this image could be touching. Remind me to resist accepting the first or most convenient answer. 3. Emotional variants Ask me to name the feelings in plain words, rather than simply describing what happened. 4. In waking life, consider Ask me what is currently changing, unresolved or demanding attention in my circumstances that this image touches. 5. A reference point Ask me when this symbol, person, place or situation first appeared in my life and what it has meant to me since. 6. Pattern signal Ask whether this is a one-off occurrence, a repetition or an escalation. Remind me: One occurrence asks for reflection. Repetition asks for examination. Escalation asks for action. 7. Distortion warning Ask me to rule out the ordinary or mundane explanation before assuming that the dream carries a deeper meaning. 8. Your question Ask me to write, in one sentence, the question that this dream appears to be asking me most directly. 9. Carry this forward Ask me to choose one small, specific and achievable action, not a list or a complete life overhaul. If I provide several actions, remain on this question and ask me to select just one. 10. You are not alone Close by reminding me that this is a known and shared pattern of the human mind, not a diagnosis or a verdict. Say nothing more. Here is my dream: [Paste your dream here]

Afterwards: grade your AI
Not every AI follows instructions equally well. Once you finish, ask yourself:
- Did it ask one question at a time, or answer several at once?
- Did it ever tell you what your dream meant, even softly, even as reassurance?
- Did it stay with your own words, or start connecting your answers for you?
- Did it show you its reasoning or thinking between questions?
- Did it stop when the ten steps ended, or keep offering to help?
If the answer to any of those went the wrong way, the reflection may have been steered. Go back to your own notes and trust your own response over the AI’s wording.
Want it on paper, or already mapped?
The script builds the ten-part structure from nothing every time you run it. The Dream Interpretation Companion puts the framework beside your bed as a printable pack. The book has already done the work for 131 of the images people dream about most often, so the reflection starts faster and goes deeper on the ones you keep returning to.
